Jeckson Electric Recalls Wireless Remote On/Off Switches Due to Potential Fire Hazard

March 16, 2010 - The Electrical Safety Authority is notifying the public that Jeckson Electric Co. Ltd has announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately.

Name of Product: RF Wireless Remote On/Off Switch

Units: Approximately 70,000 in Ontario and 160,000 in Canada

Manufacturer/Importer: Jeckson Electric Co. Ltd / Dimplex North America Ltd.

Hazard: In some cases, the plug-in remote control receiver can overheat, posing a fire hazard

Incidents/Injuries: One case of fire resulting in minor property damage, no injuries.

Description/Models: Jeckson Model 47-1001, 47-1010-R, and DOC ID# 255K656-61-8367R, black, see pictures below.

Sold by: Mass merchandise, home improvement, specialty fireplace and furniture retailers sold fireplaces, stoves and fireplace inserts that included the affected plug-in remote control

When was distributed: Manufactured between 1998 and 2008, distribution continued into 2009.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately discontinue use of the remote. The electric fireplace or stove can be safely reconnected to a suitable outlet without the use of the plug in remote control receiver.

ABB to Acquire Thomas & Betts for $3.9 Billion

ABB, a leading power and automation technology group, and Thomas & Betts Corporation, a North American leader in low voltage products, announced that both companies’ boards of directors have agreed to a transaction in which ABB will acquire Thomas & Betts for $72 per share in cash or approximately $3.9 billion.

The acquisition price represents a 24 percent premium to Thomas & Betts’ closing stock price on Jan. 27, 2012 and a 35 percent premium to the volume weighted average stock price over the past 60 trading days. The transaction is subject to approval by Thomas & Betts shareholders as well as to customary regulatory approvals, and is expected to close by the middle of 2012.

Siemens Announces Agreement to Acquire Canadian Network Supplier RuggedCom Inc.

January 30, 2012

Siemens has entered into an agreement with RuggedCom Inc. to acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of RuggedCom by way of a friendly, board-supported takeover bid. The Canadian company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange is a leading provider of communications and networking solutions for harsh industrial environments. The takeover bid is for C$33.00 per common share in cash, or a total transaction value of approximately C$382 million. RuggedCom's Board of Directors has unanimously determined to support, and to recommend that RuggedCom's shareholders accept the offer. Subject to the satisfaction or waiver of certain limited conditions, Siemens expects to take up shares under the offer in the second half of March 2012.

Ballard Power Systems has announced signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tata Motors (India) for 12 FCvelocity™-1100 fuel cell stacks.
