David Rycroft Addresses the Green Day CrowdOn Tuesday, August 24, The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) hosted its 8th annual Green Day and Sonepar was there to celebrate in solar style!
CNE officials, Toronto councillor Gord Perks, eco-retailers and Sonepar Canada’s own David Rycroft all addressed the crowd under the warm morning sun, discussing the importance of environmental awareness, sustainability, renewable energy and energy conservation. The speakers described the many ways in which the CNE is “thinking blue and acting green”, such as eliminating waste onsite and offering increased water refilling stations. David Rycroft touched on Sonepar’s 3kW portable solar plant that is currently powering The CNE’s radio station, Boom 97.3 and will become a permanent fixture on the Exhibition grounds to provide green energy wherever it is needed.
Mitch Gorman Pedals to Power Mr. Something Something's PerformanceBefore the morning’s musical entertainment began, David Rycroft was presented with a specially-minted annual CNE coin, this year commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy.
As the grand finale to the opening ceremonies, Toronto band Mr. Something Something performed a song with the help of the Soundcycle, which powers their sound equipment thanks to audience members pedaling bicycles. Sonepar’s Solar Manager, Mitch Gorman was actively involved in the performance; he provided some hearty pedaling to keep the music pumping!
The ceremony wrapped up with the presentation of a special annual CNE minted coin, this year’s design created to commemorate the 100th year of the Canadian Navy.
Sonepar Canada’s Solar Plant will be keeping Boom 97.3 running until The CNE closes on September 6. Head down to The Ex before then and check it out!
