    Expanded Recall: Certain Garrison, Maison, NOMA, RONA and UPM Branded Line Voltage Thermostats

    February 9, 2017 – This recall expansion involves the addition of other possible models of thermostats that were not included in the previous recall. Expansion of May 6, 2015 recall

    The following model numbers are included in this recall. These models were known to be sold under the brand names Garrison, Maison, NOMA, RONA and UPM. All serial numbers are affected.

    Note that some thermostat model numbers may have a letter after them, for example HTM221A. This letter indicates a minor, non-electrical variation in the product such as the shape of the LCD window or buttons or the colour of the unit. The presence of these letters does not affect which model numbers are included in the recall. The recalled units were certified to Canadian Standards by CSA International under certification number CSA 185066.

    Please be advised that certain THM211 and THM311 models were recalled in 2002 by CSA International and the Electrical Safety Authority of Ontario.

    Hazard Identified:

    The units may overheat, emit smoke and damage the wall, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

    The importer is no longer in business. Between June 20, 2011 and February 2, 2017, Health Canada received 51 reports of incidents from consumers and retailers regarding the use of these thermostats including overheating, melting, smoke and damage to the wall. No injuries have been reported.

    Number Sold:

    The number sold to consumers is unknown; however the thermostats were known to be sold at Canadian Tire, RONA and various other hardware and building stores.

    Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. has begun commercial operation of the 81.4 MW Upper Lillooet River run-of-river hydroelectric facility located in British Columbia. Innergex owns a 66.7% interest in the hydro facility and Ledcor Power Group Ltd. owns the remaining 33.3%.

    ONTARIO ENERGY NETWORK (OEN) Chair, Grant Buchanan, announces that John Loucks will join the Association in the role of the new President of the OEN, effective April 1, 2017. After a period of transition, John will also assume the title of CEO of the Association.

    John has more than 30 years in the energy sector, beginning his career in engineering, conservation and technical service positions, first at the City of Calgary (now ENMAX) and then at Brampton Hydro. Loucks joined Napanee Public Utilities Commission as CEO (General Manager), then assumed the same position with Nanticoke Hydro-Electric Commission. Following that, John joined Brantford Power as Chief Operating Officer.

    STELPRO announced the appointment of Christopher Balleine as Sales Representative, Maritimes, responsible for the province of Nova Scotia, effective March 20, 2017.
